Access control systems manage who can enter specific areas and at what times, using cards or identification methods supported by the selected system. We review the number and type of doors, user groups, and required permissions, then select suitable readers, controllers, locks, power supplies, and exit accessories. We discuss user and log management and integration with other systems according to compatibility and scope. We also review door behaviour during a power failure and safe exit requirements in coordination with those responsible for the site, then test permissions, opening, and closing before handover. The solution depends on the door, lock, and day-to-day management working together, beyond installing a reader alone.

Shared keys, difficulty revoking access, and different access levels across departments can complicate administration. Defining a clear access policy from the start helps select a system that is easy to operate and review, with permissions suited to each group.
